Vinchio Vaglio, Montecroce DOC Cortese

£15.00

Tasting Note

An honest, easy-going Cortese. Floral, summery aromas of hay and blossom with a light tropical lift, then a delicate, lively palate with a gently savoury edge and a clean finish.

Drink it with: fresh cheeses, savoury tarts, omelettes, white meat or simple fish dishes. Lovely as an aperitivo too.

The Winemaking

Gently pressed, then fermented cool in stainless steel for around 20 days. Nearly a month on its lees with stirring adds texture; no malolactic, no oak. Bottled in early spring.

The Vineyards

100% Cortese, the native white grape of the Alto Monferrato hills, hand-picked in the morning and taken straight to the winery. Montecroce is named after a historic hilltop site marked by a cross.

The Producer

Vinchio Vaglio is a growers' co-operative founded in 1959 in the Monferrato hills near Asti. Today 192 families farm around 470 hectares, and Barbera makes up about 70% of what they produce.
