Tasting Note
Ruby red with an intense nose of cherries, berries, violets, herbs and spice. Structured, mineral and round, with the backbone to age well.
Drink it with: a good steak, game, or slow-braised red meat.
The Winemaking
Temperature-controlled fermentation with 20 days on the skins, then 12–14 months in small barrels, 40% new.
The Vineyards
Crognolo was the estate's first wine, made since 1998. It's Sangiovese from a clone taken from the historic 1935 Vigna dell'Impero, with a dash of Merlot for roundness. The name comes from the wild cornel bush that grows on the estate.
The Producer
Tenuta Sette Ponti lies between Florence and Arezzo in the Valdarno, with roots back to the 13th century. The Moretti family bought it in the 1950s and, from the late 1990s, turned it into one of Tuscany's leading names for elegant, structured Super Tuscans.
