San Polino, Rosso di Montalcino DOC

£44.00

Tasting Note

Dark pink to violet and bursting with fruit: blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry and red plum. A bright, gentle expression of Sangiovese.

Drink it with: full-flavoured dishes, or simply on its own.

The Winemaking

Three days' cold soak, then a spontaneous fermentation in large oak and steel, with a further 21 days on the skins. Malolactic happens naturally, followed by six months in large 38-hectolitre casks.

The Vineyards

Organic and biodynamic vineyards at 350–450 metres, managed with permaculture principles. Hand-pruned and hand-harvested, and never treated with chemicals.

The Producer

San Polino is a tiny nine-hectare estate north-west of Montalcino, founded nearly 30 years ago by Luigi Fabbro and Katia Nussbaum. Luigi's scientific background drives a deep focus on biodiversity, and the wines are celebrated for the clarity and purity of their fruit.
