Tasting Note
Purple-hued, with violet perfume and red and black fruit, especially raspberry and blackberry. Round and balanced, with fine, long tannins and an elegant finish.
Drink it with: Italian dishes, roast duck or mild cheeses.
The Winemaking
Hand-picked from a 35-year-old vineyard, then about eight days' fermentation in stainless steel with gentle pump-overs. Full malolactic and six months in steel. No oak.
The Vineyards
160 hectares of sandy loam and sandy clay beside the Tejo, whose waters temper the climate. Double-cordon vines, hand-harvested and farmed with integrated pest management.
The Producer
Quinta da Alorna is a historic Tejo estate dating back to the 18th century. It farms sustainably and makes a range of distinctly Portuguese wines from native grapes.
