Tasting Note
Classic off-dry Mosel Kabinett from a famous single vineyard. Pure, slate-driven minerality, with grapefruit, pineapple, crushed stone, lemon zest and herbs. Round and easy on the palate, with clean acidity and juicy yellow plum and ripe lemon running through the finish. Only 8% alcohol, utterly delicious now, and it'll keep improving in bottle.
Drink it with: Thai food and gentle curries, sushi, scallops, lobster or smoked meats.
The Winemaking
Hand-picked in early October and gently pressed. Fermented slowly with wild yeasts in old oak fuder casks, then aged there for around three months. No chemical fining.
The Vineyards
The Erdener Treppchen, the 'little staircase', a steep, rocky slope so precipitous that stairways are carved into the rock to reach the vines. Its red, iron-rich slate gives lively, complex wines with spicy, intense minerality.
The Producer
The Richter family have farmed in the Middle Mosel for around 300 years, working 16 hectares of steep slopes by hand. Their single-vineyard wines are aged in 960-litre old oak fuders and built to last.
