Tasting Note
Smart white Burgundy from the hills above the famous villages, at a fraction of their prices. Pale gold, with white flowers and honey on the nose and a little gingerbread spice from the oak. Elegant and fresh on the palate, keeping its Chardonnay purity rather than going rich or buttery.
Drink it with: garlicky snails, delicate white fish, or a vegetable stir-fry.
The Winemaking
Slowly and gently pressed, then fermented under temperature control in oak barrels and larger casks. Aged for around 12 months in oak (20% new) and a further month in stainless steel.
The Vineyards
The Hautes Côtes de Beaune: higher, cooler slopes behind the great Côte de Beaune villages, which give fresher, more delicate Chardonnay.
The Producer
Maison Chanzy has top sites across the Côte Chalonnaise, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Winemaker Max Blondelle has a light-touch, site-first approach, and Chanzy is one of very few Burgundy houses certified HVE level 3, France's highest environmental standard.
