Eric Texier, Adele

£25.00

Tasting Note

A Rhône white with a natural-wine soul. Mostly Clairette with a dash of Marsanne, it's elegant, complex and layered, with a lovely texture from months on its lees and the warmth of its granite slopes. Named after Adèle Blanc-Sec, the adventurous heroine of a classic French comic strip, and just as characterful.

Drink it with: shellfish and seafood, or as an aperitif with a hard cheese.

The Winemaking

Whole bunches are gently pressed and the juice cold-settled, then fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts in concrete tanks. It rests on its lees for 6–8 months, and no sulphur is added until bottling. No oak.

The Vineyards

Organically farmed, hand-picked vines on granite on the northern bank of the Ouvèze in the Ardèche, around St Julien and St Alban.

The Producer

Eric Texier swapped a career as a nuclear engineer for wine in 1992, training at Verget in the Mâconnais. With no family vineyards, he started as a négociant before buying tiny plots in Brézème and the Ardèche. Today he and his wife Laurence farm 12 hectares of 30–90-year-old vines, organically from day one.
