Tasting Note
Gentle, zero-dosage Loire fizz, and a lovely alternative to Prosecco or Crémant. Bright and lively, with green apple and citrus, fine, delicate bubbles and a refreshing, zesty finish. Bone dry, elegant and very easy to love.
Drink it with: it's a perfect aperitif, and brilliant with oysters and seafood.
The Winemaking
100% Chardonnay with a second fermentation in bottle. It's a softer, semi-sparkling style (2.9 bar rather than Champagne's 6), with no added sugar (Brut Nature) and a crown cap. A small portion (20%) spends three months in older 500-litre oak for texture.
The Vineyards
Flinty clay and clay-limestone soils that hold water well, which helps as Loire summers get hotter and drier. The name comes from tuffeau, the creamy white limestone that runs through the region.
The Producer
The Plou family have farmed in the Loire since 1508. Today brothers Mathieu and Guillaume Plou run 75 hectares, making wines that speak clearly of their local soils and grapes.
