Tasting Note
A single-vineyard Vosne-Romanée from a tiny family domaine, and a genuine treat. Refined and elegant, with juicy cherry and strawberry fruit, real precision and tension, and lingering forest-floor notes. Softer in the tannins than its Nuits-Saint-Georges neighbours, with that silky Vosne texture people pay a fortune for.
Drink it with: roast duck with a cherry glaze, pigeon with wild mushrooms, or a lentil and herb terrine.
The Winemaking
Made in tiny quantities by Christophe Drag. Fully destemmed, cold-soaked for 5–6 days in concrete, then fermented for 18–21 days. Aged 12–14 months in French oak (15% new), racked twice and bottled without fining or filtration.
The Vineyards
A 0.31-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines in the Aux Ravioles lieu-dit, at the southern end of Vosne-Romanée where it meets Nuits-Saint-Georges. Silty, sandy soils, natural grass cover and careful pruning.
The Producer
Domaine Jean Chauvenet is a small, family-owned Nuits-Saint-Georges estate founded by Jean Chauvenet and now run by his son-in-law Christophe Drag. Several decades of experience, and a focus on refinement over power.
