Domaine Georges Lignier, Chambolle-Musigny

£90.00

Tasting Note

Chambolle is the most perfumed and delicate of the Côte de Nuits villages, and Lignier's take is all about precision. Dark red fruits, a twist of pepper and a chalky, mineral edge on the nose. The palate is taut and finely etched, with fresh acidity and real energy. Lean but never austere: this is Burgundy for people who like their Pinot pure rather than plush.

Drink it with: roast guinea fowl or quail with herbs, grilled trout with lemon and dill, or a board of charcuterie and pâté.

The Winemaking

Hand-picked and sorted at the domaine, with 10–30% whole bunches depending on the year. Aged for 18 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels (25% new), then bottled unfiltered at the estate.

The Vineyards

Just under a hectare of village-level Chambolle-Musigny, on pebbly, gravelly soils rich in iron.

The Producer

A family estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, run by the Lignier family for over four generations. Since 2008 it's been led by Benoît Stehly, Georges Lignier's nephew, who sticks to traditional methods and an elegant, more delicate house style than many of his neighbours.
