Domaine de Fondrèche, Ventoux Rouge

£24.00

Tasting Note

Modern Southern Rhône red that balances power and finesse beautifully. Deep ruby, with dark berries, plum, violets and wild garrigue herbs, plus liquorice, black pepper and a graphite edge. Juicy and plush, with velvety tannins and fresh acidity, finishing long and lively with a hint of smoke. Châteauneuf flavours at a fraction of the price.

Drink it with: aubergine parmigiana, chargrilled portobello mushrooms, or venison sausages with red onion chutney.

The Winemaking

Grenache (50%), Syrah (30%) and Mourvèdre (20%). Vinified over 21–28 days with gentle pump-overs, then aged for 18 months split roughly equally between tanks, old foudres and egg-shaped vats.

The Vineyards

Three sites around Mazan, Mormoiron and Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols, mostly clay and limestone gravel. No herbicides, natural treatments, mechanical soil work and grass between the rows, all following the lunar calendar. Certified organic since 2022.

The Producer

Sébastien Vincenti's 38-hectare Domaine de Fondrèche is widely rated among the very best estates in the Ventoux, making polished, rich, balanced wines at prices that remain very fair.
