Tasting Note
Juicy, joyful Beaujolais, exactly as it should be. Light and aromatic, bursting with fresh red fruit, with soft, supple tannins and enough acidity to keep every sip lively. Serve it a little cool and it disappears alarmingly fast.
Drink it with: barbecued meats, a goat's cheese salad, or simply on its own as an aperitif.
The Winemaking
Hand-picked grapes are sorted, then go into the vat as whole bunches for traditional Beaujolais carbonic maceration, which gives all that bright fruit and low, supple tannin. No oak.
The Vineyards
Granite soils around Lantignié, with bush-trained Gamay vines averaging around 40 years old. HVE-certified, with organic manure, grassed rows, shallow ploughing and yields kept low.
The Producer
Domaine de Colette was founded by René Gauthier and is run today by his son Jacky, with grandson Pierre-Alexandre now alongside him. The family have moved to organic farming, and the cellar looks out over the Saône Valley towards Mont Blanc on a clear day.
