Tasting Note
Rich, spicy Southern Rhône red that over-delivers every single vintage. Deep purple, with ripe blackberry, liquorice and a hint of minerality on the nose. The palate is rich and aromatic, with dark fruit, sage and Provençal herbs, silky but structured tannins and a long, spicy, earthy finish.
Drink it with: a Provençal beef daube, a vegetable tian, or anything Mediterranean.
The Winemaking
60% Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre (15% each) and Carignan (10%). Each grape is vinified separately with gentle extraction over 18–25 days, then blended and aged for around 12 months in concrete vats. No oak, so the fruit and spice shine.
The Vineyards
Old vines on limestone and clay among the wild garrigue scrub of Cairanne. Hand-picked and sorted twice, in the vineyard and at the cellar door. Certified organic and moving towards biodynamics.
The Producer
Denis Alary has long been known for warm, juicy, spicy and great-value Cairanne. His son Jean-Etienne joined in 2016 and now runs the vineyards and cellar.
