Tasting Note
Serious Saint-Estèphe from a great vintage, now hitting a lovely spot. Deep red with purple glints, with blackcurrant and black cherry, restrained oak and a little hint of mint. Concentrated on the palate, with smooth but structured tannins and a long, elegant finish. A proper treat for a special dinner.
Drink it with: ribeye or steak béarnaise, lamb chops, or a rich venison stew.
The Winemaking
55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Each variety and plot was picked at its peak, then gently extracted by pump-over to keep the tannins elegant. Aged for 12 months in French oak.
The Vineyards
Saint-Estèphe, on the northern edge of the Médoc's great communes. The vineyard is farmed traditionally, with the soil ploughed in four passes to aerate it, help rain soak in and keep weeds under control.
The Producer
Château Tronquoy Lalande is an estate in Saint-Estèphe owned by the Bouygues family, who also own Château Montrose next door.
