Tasting Note
Cahors is Malbec's original home, long before Argentina made it famous, and this is the real deal. Ripe blackberry and plum with hints of graphite and spice. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and fresh acidity, and flavours of dark fruit, cocoa and earth leading to a long finish. Built to age for 10–15 years, but very rewarding now with a decant.
Drink it with: roast venison or wild boar, or chargrilled aubergine and peppers with herbs.
The Winemaking
100% Malbec, hand-harvested and cold-soaked before fermentation, then 28 days on the skins. Aged for 12 months in a mix of concrete, stainless steel and French oak, with advice from Pascal Verhaeghe of the celebrated Château du Cèdre.
The Vineyards
Marl and limestone soils on the Cahors plateau, where cool nights keep the acidity fresh. Farmed organically since 2018.
The Producer
Matthieu and Virginie Molinié are devoted to Cahors Malbec, farming 28 hectares of vines averaging 25 years old and making up to five cuvées. This one is the estate's signature wine.
