Tasting Note
A Chenin with a rebellious streak and a lovely texture. Crisp green apple up front, softened by a creamy roundness from the grape's natural richness and malolactic fermentation. Fermenting in steel keeps the acidity bright and lively. Fresh, generous and very food-friendly.
Drink it with: a Mediterranean salad, tomato linguine or seafood.
The Winemaking
Fermented in stainless steel to keep it fresh, then put through malolactic fermentation for a softer, creamier texture.
The Vineyards
The Butte de Chaume in Anjou, a Premier Cru hillside of schist, spilite, sandstone and pudding-stone, all ideal for expressive Chenin Blanc. Farmed organically and biodynamically.
The Producer
Château de Plaisance has a great backstory: owner Guy Rochais made a dry wine on a slope reserved for sweet Chaume, was fined for breaking the appellation rules and renamed it 'The Insolent'. After 60 years the Rochais family sold to winemaker Vanessa Cherruau, whose first vintage was 2019, and she's carrying that independent spirit forward.
