Tasting Note
Gewürztraminer is the most gloriously over-the-top grape in the world, and Alsace is its home. Rose petals, lychee and exotic fruit leap out of the glass, with a gentle sweetness on the palate and a warm hint of spice on the finish. Rich, aromatic and a total crowd-pleaser.
Drink it with: spicy or Asian food (Thai curries especially), foie gras, or a fruity dessert.
The Winemaking
Only the best grapes are selected and carried to the press in small wagons, with no pumping. The juice then runs into the vats by gravity, which protects all those delicate aromatics. No oak.
The Vineyards
Steep, sunny slopes in the foothills of the Vosges, sheltered from wind and rain. The co-op's vineyards include eight Grands Crus, and the grapes for this range come from organically farmed, hand-harvested plots.
The Producer
Cave de Ribeauvillé is France's oldest wine co-operative, owned by its growers for more than a century. This organic range is all about fresh, fruit-led, classic Alsace varieties, made by experienced organic winemaker Evelyne Dodelinger.
