Tasting Note
Orange peel, plum and tobacco leaf on the nose. Lively tannins and high acidity give it real backbone; this is a Barolo built to age.
Drink it with: lamb chops, game, or a wedge of aged blue cheese.
The Winemaking
A slow, temperature-controlled fermentation with native yeasts and minimal sulphur, then 18 months in large, old French oak barrels.
The Vineyards
Nebbiolo from the estate's Langhe holdings, which take in some of Barolo's great crus: Cannubi, Preda, Fossati, Costa Fiore, Pernici and Bussia. No herbicides, and everything is worked and harvested by hand.
The Producer
Amabile Drocco bought an old farmhouse with vineyards in 1999 and built a gravity-fed winery. Since then he has steadily acquired plots across Barolo's crus, convinced that the land is what makes each wine different.
