Tasting Note
Almost violet in colour, with black mulberry and blackberry and a light hint of pine needles. Fresh and youthful, with a gently sweet-fruited, elegant palate.
Drink it with: duck rice, oven-baked cod, cured sausages, grilled chicken or pasta.
The Winemaking
Fully destemmed, cold-soaked for 24 hours, then fermented for 12 days in small steel tanks with gentle pump-overs. Kept in steel until release. No oak.
The Vineyards
Poor granite soils with schist outcrops, looking out to the Serra da Estrela mountains. Farmed under integrated crop management, with grapes hand-picked into small 18kg boxes.
The Producer
Carlos Lucas has nearly 30 years of winemaking behind him and makes wine across several Portuguese regions. In the Dão he replanted Quinta do Ribeiro Santo on thin granite soils and later added Quinta de Santa Maria, 10 hectares of old vines.
