Cal Batllet-Marc Ripoll, Gratallops d'Iatra

£34.00

Tasting Note

Round, balanced and ripe, yet fresh. Red berry fruit and mineral notes with a generous mouthfeel that stays bright.

Drink it with: roast lamb or other roast meats.

The Winemaking

Spontaneous fermentation in vat at no more than 26°C, with hand pump-overs and a 30-day maceration. Fourteen months in used French barrels for most of the wine.

The Vineyards

Organically farmed terraces in Gratallops, with vines up to 50 years old.

The Producer

Marc Ripoll took back his family's Gratallops vineyards, which had been selling grapes to the co-op, and restored the old winery. Cal Batllet is now one of Priorat's leading estates, making wines about place rather than power.
