Artelium, Pinot Gris

£32.00

Tasting Note

If you think English still wine is all thin and tart, this will change your mind. Ripe pear, fresh pollen and a surprising flash of mango and banana on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and gently creamy, with lively acidity keeping it fresh, and a long finish that drifts into baked apple. Textured, characterful and genuinely delicious.

Drink it with: oily fish. Mackerel or a seared tuna steak are perfect, as is a big, punchy salad.

The Winemaking

Two vineyard parcels are pressed separately, then fermented together so their characters knit. A warmer start to fermentation builds richness, then the wine spends six months on its lees, stirred twice a month, for that creamy texture. No oak.

The Vineyards

Sussex vineyards on clay loam and chalk, guyot-pruned. The same chalk seam that gives English fizz its backbone gives this Pinot Gris its freshness.

The Producer

Artelium is a boutique East Sussex estate founded in 2020 by Mark Collins and Julie Bretland, built around wine, art and nature. Alongside their serious sparkling wines, they're pushing what English still wine can be, and this Pinot Gris is a great example.

The Details

  • Vintage: 2023
  • ABV: 12.5%
  • Size: 75cl
  • Region: Sussex
  • Country: England
  • Grapes: Pinot Gris
